Generally when people talk about fitness  we all tend to  think and care  about  workouts , plans , diets , nutrients , food , sleep. But something that’s not taken into consideration but has been a hot topic nowadays in the  fitness community is  cannabis . Cannabis, also termed Marijuana is a plant  consumed as a psychoactive (mind-altering) drug. Recently it   has started to make a fuss around and people have started to incorporate it with training.Even though lack of evidences but anecdotes with  the mass experiencing     increase of appetite , enjoyable workouts , reduce in  discomfort , ease of pain  the use cannabis has seen a surprising  increase of popularity of amongst the people who are into fitness  with safe consumption in mind. 


Whether it be smoking , vaping , eating , drinking , the use of cannabis has been skyrocketing in the industry. While some still prefer to smoke , people have been resorting to safer means of consumption like vapes, edibles  (brownies , cookies , chocolates) , alcohol infused tinctures , topicals , pills  patches. CBD, a chemical found in marijuana which is non-psychoactive, has been a major reason for the use of it. Applied directly to the skin, cannabis balms, gels, salves and 

lotions can be used to treat pain, muscle aches  , bone and muscle inflammation limiting the feeling of soreness   . Whereas THC , another chemical and also the psychoactive part can help to prevent the discomforts. Studies have shown consumption of cannabis in anyform helps to sleep better. Even though there aren’t controlled experiments  it has been seen that with better sleep  THC might also boost recovery.In a survey done at University of Colorado  about 70% of respondents who used cannabis before working out said doing so made exercising more enjoyable. Scientists even suggest that in the case of exercise there are specific chemical interactions at play, like the release of endorphins  which gives  a feeling of pleasure. Having a good workout also motivates the user  to continue their discipline and creates a positive feedback loop of them loving it and wanting to do it again and again.


Who hasn’t  seen a smoker eat a lot of food when they’re high? If you haven’t then it’s generally referred to as munchies. Munchies is just a slang for hunger pangs  and the main cause for it also, yes the same THC. THC also prevents the production of leptin - “a hormone that suppresses your appetite”  but CBD does the complete  opposite and makes people eat less ,  so people tend to use the strain having lesser CBD.   Generally during munchies  chips , chocolates , sugary  oily  foods  are eaten but  people with inability to consume their daily dose of nutrition due to lack of appetite use cannabis as a catalyst to eat the food. No matter what , it makes the food palatable and increases your appetite to a very high extent making it easy to complete calorie dense nutritious meals. Focus and mindfulness is also  increased for some of the users but with high dose usage focus is out of the equation .Most cannabis users will tell you that you’re more in tune with your body when you’re high. Mind-body connection  being a major factor in structural development , our training is boosted  when using cannabis because you can pinpoint the muscles you want to contract for a targeted exercise. People might argue saying it’s a placebo effect due to lack of studies in this sector but due to the presence of many anecdotes and a large number of people experiencing the same effects , there’s a promising factor regarding it.



Cannabis isn’t a saving grace for the fitness community  but is easily one of the most useful substances that can be used to get people in the track via minimising the discomfort and increasing the willingness to incorporate fitness in their life. For the best possible experience, experts recommend starting with a low dose, a calm activity, and a familiar environment. And some people, such as those with heart problems or anxiety, should avoid stoned exercise. Even with all the information out there Cannabis  must be taken under the supervised dose with the doctor for the optimum benefit and for stoners out there  finding the sweet spot would be the best thing rather than getting too high all the time.
